Gordon Joseph Keenan, 81, born June 13, 1929 in Watertown, N.Y., dield peacefully, Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, lovingly surrounded by family at his side.

Longtime resident of Rochester N.Y., he was an alumnus of Clarkson College, and served honorably as a U.S. Naval Engineering Officer on the LST 1163. He worked as a senior engineer for Rochester Gas and Electric Co. for over 30 years.

An avid sailor and past Commodore of the Genesee Yacht Club of Rochester, N.Y., he loved sailing his Cape Dori on Lake Ontario for many years. He was an incredibly dedicated husband and dad with a wonderful sense of humor. His family will forever cherish summers at the cottage, ski trips, his love of animals, lunches at the Char-pit, camping at Southwicks Beach, and picnics at the yacht club.

He was a resident of Fairhope for the past 13 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Joan Heffernan Keenan; four children, Gordon A. (Ruth) Keenan, Daniel J. Keenan, Patricia R. Keenan (fiancé Horace Turner) and Kathleen E. (John) Klein; grandchildren, Thomas G. Keenan, Elizabeth A. Keenan, Danielle V. Keenan, Nicola C. Keenan, Rebecca R. (Jeff) Stewart, Jennifer E. (Dan) Glies, Briana C. Buttarazzi, Jack S. Buttarazzi, Jason L. Klein and Gregory R. Klein; three great-grandchildren:, Brenna R. Stewart, Aiden G. Stewart and Addison M. Glies.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Monday, Dec. 6 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope. Private graveside services will be held at Belforest Catholic Cemetery.
