FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Mobile Baykeeper is celebrating the 10th annual Springhill Medical Center Grandman Triathlon on May 31 at the Fairhope Municipal Pier at 7 a.m.

Triathletes begin the race jumping off the Fairhope pier straight out into Mobile Bay and swimming 1/3 of a mile alongside the Fairhope Pier. After the swim, they immediately bike 18 miles throughout the city of Fairhope across grueling hills and finish the race sprinting a 5k alongside Mobile Bay.

“What’s so unique about this triathlon is that racers get to jump off of the pier and swim in open water,” said Casi Callaway, Mobile Baykeeper Executive Director and Grandman Race Director. “Safeguarding Mobile Bay for swimmers of all ages is what we do everyday at Mobile Baykeeper, so this race is very important to us.” Racers can register online at TheGrandman.com.

Mobile Baykeeper is pleased to announce this year’s sponsors: Springhill Medical Center, Pro Cycle and Triathlon, Pilot Catastrophe Services, Inc., Gabriel A. Chamblin, DMD, Atlanta Bread Company, The Orthopedic Group, P.C., and Eastern Shore Cycles and the list is growing. All proceeds from the race benefit Mobile Baykeeper, The Baldwin County Trailblazers, the Gulf Coast Area Triathletes and Camp Rap-A-Hope. If your business or organization is interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact Mary Kathryn Cunningham at mkcunningham@mobilebaykeeper.org.

If you’d like to volunteer for the Grandman, please contact the Volunteer Director Michele Finn at mfinn@mobilebaykeeper.org. Volunteers are needed on May 15-16 for packet stuffing and on May 30-31 for race setup, body marking, traffic control, water stations, the awards ceremony and the post-race party.
