Gregory Donald Morgan, born May 7, 1960 in Mobile, a resident of Fairhope died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 at a local hospital.

He was an outstanding athlete and received numerous awards and recognition. He was selected for the All-Star Baseball team every year from the age of 6 to 18. When he was 16 he played shortstop for the Ranger All-Star Babe Ruth team that went on to win second place in the National Babe Ruth World Series. He was a starting varsity baseball player all four years at Davidson High School under Coach Ronnie Powell. He was also a starter on the offense and defense as well as being the starting kicker and punter for the Davidson Warriors football team.

He was one of two players chosen to represent the state of Alabama in the National Sports Festival (Junior Olympics) in Colorado Springs, Colo., where his baseball team was awarded the bronze medal. He received a baseball scholarship to USA under Coach Eddie Stankey. He went on to play at ESJC on a baseball scholarship under Coach Steve Kittrell where he was selected the most valuable player. He finished his education at Auburn University on a baseball scholarship.

He was an AHSAA umpire for over 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hughie and Ethel Blackwell, Ed and Ada Morgan.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Kathleen “Kat” Bostrom Morgan; daughter, Lauralee Morgan (Luka) Frlan of Croatia; two sons, Bowlin Cole Morgan and Maxwell Andrews Morgan; his parents, Floyd and Marie Morgan of Lenox; brother, Chad (Sabrina) Morgan of Tampa, Fla.; one granddaughter Magdalena Marie Frlan; two sisters-in-law, Jane Holley Bostrom and Polly Bostrom Thumser; nephew, Jeffrey Thumser; niece, Amelia Thumser; father and mother-in-law, Fred and Sandra Bostrom; many numerous friends and relatives.

Memorial services are planned for a later date at both Fairhope United Methodist, and Springhill United Methodist in Lenox.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Greg Morgan Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo Bank in Daphne in a trust account for the Morgan children’s education.
