FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Citizens for Responsible Government has withdrawn its plans to host an election forum.
At the last City Council meeting, Citizens for Responsible Government asked to hold the forum at the Fairhope Civic Center with the usual fees waived. Council member Mike Ford objected that request stating that the group may have a “political agenda.”
Phil Brady, the current president of Citizens for Responsible Government, ran against Ford for City Council in the 2008 elections.
Council President Lonnie Mixon asked for the group to be contacted for more information regarding the forum, with a vote on the issue to be held until the next council meeting.
Brady could not be reached by deadline for comment.
Another group, Fairhope First, has tentative plans to host an election forum.
“We are discussing hosting a forum,” Lori DuBose of WABF 1220 Radio said. “It’s still in the infancy stages.”
