Groups commended for Christmas Decorations

FOLEY – During Foley’s last council meeting of 2015, Mayor John Koniar and the city council recognized the people responsible for the city’s new Christmas decorations, which he described as being a big success.

“We’ve gotten more compliments than I can ever recall. . . This has been one of the most gratifying programs that I’ve seen happen in the city,” said Koniar. “We want to personally thank you for what you have done. It looks great.”

The council recognized members of several groups who worked together as a team on the many tasks required to make the new decorating plan a reality.

The Foley Beautification Committee was commended for creating a master holiday decorations plan and getting council approval for funding. They were recognized for giving their time, talents and efforts. This included some members who climbed ladders and got into bucket trucks to make sure it all looked just right. The Beautification Committee consists of Pat Davis - committee chair, Gary Pitts, Pat Libby, Brenda Shambo, Carolyne Hollis, Sarah Rouzie, Ellen Dean, Terry Underwood, Josh Roberts and Chad Watkins.

The decorating sub-committee consisted of Tootsie Allen and Traci Cantrell, who were recognized for their decorating expertise and assistance with choosing the new decorations.

Also recognized were members of the city Parks Department, who spent many additional hours hanging the new decorations per the specific instructions of the beautification committee.

Other partners who worked on the project included Riviera Utilities, which provides men and trucks to hang decorations on utility poles each year, and the Street Department, Maintenance Department, Horticultural Department, Clerks Office and Engineering.

The mayor and council thanked each group for the part they played in making Foley so beautiful for the holidays.

“We’ve had a lot of positive comments. It really looks good,” said Wayne Trawick, council president.
