In Mrs. Shirley's First Grade class, a student brought a book entitled Have You Filled a Bucket Today? The book is written by Carol McCloud and it is a guide to daily happiness for kids. The class read the book and decided it was full of great ideas to adopt and use in everyday life situations. It explains that everyone carries an invisible bucket and our job is to fill other people's buckets. You can fill another person's bucket by smiling, giving a hug, or giving a compliment. The book also discusses that unfortunately there are people that are bucket dippers. A bucket dipper tries to take away from another person's bucket by calling them a name, trying to fight, or being mean. This is being a bully and it NEVER works. The children also incorporated the book into their writing. They wrote how they could be bucket fillers. So, in Mrs. Shirley's class we set a goal to try and fill at least one person's bucket a day. Imagine if we ALL tried just to fill ONE person's bucket a day---how NICE our world would be!!!
