Second graders at Gulf Shores Elementary School are learning how to relate unknown addition combinations to known combinations with AMSTI math. For instance, most students know their 10’s facts immediately such as 4 + 10 = 14. Many don’t know their 9’s facts as readily but can think “if 10 + 4 = 14, then 9 is one less than 10 so 9 + 4 must be one less than 14 so it must be 13.” Playing Plus 9 or 10 Bingo is a great way for students to learn these related combinations.
