Ralphie Jaye and Shannon Todd (l to r) hold a lima bean pod from the bean plant that Shannon planted months ago in Sara Altmyer’s second grade class at Gulf Shores Elementary School. The students learned that in order for their plant to thrive and reproduce, they would have to make sure it got plenty of sunlight, the appropriate amount of water and plenty of room to grow by transplanting it into a bigger pot once it outgrew the cup. Several of the students have nurtured their lima bean plant to the point of having baby beans!
