GULF SHORES, Ala. — Business students at Gulf Shores High School are playing the Stock Market Game sponsored by the Alabama Council on Economic Education and Sterne Agee.
The students in Sherry Patterson’s Business Technology Applications class are working on 10 different teams for the 10-week online session in the Alabama region.
Each team starts with a virtual cash account of $100,000. The students make decisions to create the best-performing portfolio using a live trading simulation.
In building a portfolio, students research and evaluate stocks, and make decisions based on what they’ve learned.
Teams trade common stocks and mutual funds from the NYSE, Nasdaq and AMEX exchanges.
In this competition, teams are ranked based on portfolio equity.
The team with the highest equity at the end of the trading session is recognized as being the winner of The Stock Market Game.
