GSST hosting youth triathlon Saturday

GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Gulf Shores Swim Team was led by Taylor Shannon at the Spring Fling Swim Meet on April 25-26. Taylor Shannon was the first GSST team member to qualify for the Southeastern Swimming Long Course Championships to be held in Nashville on July 24. He qualified in the 100-meter Butterfly and the 200-meter Breaststroke.

Seven other GSST swimmers attended the meet and set numerous best times.

Ben Malone and Margaret Lloyd swam best times in each of their races over the weekend.

For Drew Taylor, Dalton Grady and Garrett Robinson this was their first Long Course meet.

“Long Course meets are challenging for us and most teams because we do not get to practice in a 50-meter pool,” Coach Brook Monroe said.

The swim team will be hosting a youth triathlon on Saturday, May 9. This event will be held on the grounds of the Recreation Center in Gulf Shores.

The triathlon will be a fundraiser for the Gulf Shores Summer League Swim Team.

The summer league team competes in the Gulf Coast Aquatic League, a group of 10 teams primarily in Baldwin County.

The Gulf Shores Swim Team is composed of swimmers living in Foley, Elberta, Robertsdale, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

If you have a swimmer that would like to join the team, call Coach Brook Monroe at the Bodenhamer Recreation Center at 968-1420 for additional information.
