GULF SHORES, Ala. — Gulf Shores United Methodist Church (GSUMC) is assisting Dumas Wesley Community Center, at 126 Mobile Street in Mobile, with a three-day musical celebration fundraiser Oct. 16-18.
Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., there will be a Stained Glass Bluegrass Concert and on Sunday at 7 p.m., there will be An Evening of Broadway.
Admission for concerts is $5 per performance.
On Saturday, from noon until 6 p.m. barbecue will be served for eating in or taking out. Plates are $7 each.
The Stained Glass Bluegrass Concerts feature The Hall Trio, Al Rawls, a gospel pianist and other local artists.
Also, The McPhersons will appear Friday night, and The Sandspur Band appears on Saturday night.
Stained glass bluegrass gets its name largely from musician’s singing gospel music with bluegrass instruments such as the mandolin and dobro.
This music blend has proven through sold-out performances to be an extremely popular concert.
Recently, the Alabama Legislature named The Sandspur Band as the “official stained glass bluegrass band of Alabama.
The Chancel Choir from Gulf Shores United Methodist Church will present An Evening of Broadway.”
This renowned choir presents annual concerts related to Broadway, patriotic themes, Christmas and Easter at their church, under the leadership of their music minister, James Keith Posey.
This year’s Broadway production includes music from “Oklahoma,” “Smokey Joe’s Cafe,” “The Lion King” and more.
Barbecue will be served for eating in or taking out on Saturday from noon until 6 pm. For more fun and entertainment, there will be music from local musicians.
For those attending concerts at 7 p.m., timing is perfect for an evening of dining and entertainment.
