GULF SHORES, Ala. — Gulf Coast Ballet has announced that guest dancer Robert Biggs will be dancing the role of the Prince in GCB’s up coming production of “Cinderella.”
Biggs and GCB student Brooke Noe (Cinderella), will perform the pas de deux. Then he will perform The Prince’s variation.
Sixty students of the Orange Beach-based ballet school will perform a one-hour version of the classical ballet telling the story of the mistreated servant girl, Cinderella, her spoiled and vain step-sisters (Brittany Noe and Bailey Kennon) and her Fairy Godmother (Elizabeth Anne Rollings).
The princesses attending the Royal Ball in hopes of catching the eye of the Prince are Sarah Carl, Mary-Grace Reeves, Erin Salter and Sarah Smith.
Ben Lundy will be the Prince’s friend.
GCB’s adult ballet class will perform as gypsies. The younger classes will fill the roles of courtiers, jesters, fairies, ponies, mice and spiders.
These dancers have been training under Andrea Baggett, Angie Noe and Kathleen Tucker, Gulf Coast Ballet’s director.
Tucker says she is pleased to be able to bring a professional dancer of Biggs’ status to the GCB’s performance for both the education of her students and for the enrichment of our community. She hopes to make having a guest male dancer in GCB’s recitals an annual tradition.
“Girls in small town ballet schools seldom get an opportunity to partner with a professional, and communities this small seldom have a guest of this quality dance for them,” she said.
Biggs has been training under Dorothy Daniels Lister since 1997. He began his training in high school with Kaleidoscope and Ballet Pensacola.
He earned the honor of attending The Joffery Ballet’s Summer Intensive on scholarship in 1999.
After high school Biggs joined the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged after four years of service.
Returning home, he danced with Northwest Florida Ballet for a little over four years. During that time he danced in “The Nutcracker,” “Romeo and Juliet,” “Dracula,” “Coppelia,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Scheherazade” and “Cinderella.”
Biggs currently continues his training under Lister in downtown Pensacola.
“Cinderella” will be held May 9, at 7 p.m., at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center in Gulf Shores.
Tickets are $10 for general admission, and $5 for little children under age 5.
They are available at H2O Swimwear and HL Hood’s Apparel at The Wharf in Orange Beach or at the door the night of the performance.
Doors open at 6:30, there is no reserved seating, and there will be light refreshments served at a reception following the ballet.
