Week 7 of the prep football season presents another storied Baldwin County rivalry between the Foley Lions and the Fairhope Pirates as they go head-to-head in the Gulf Coast Media Game of the Week.
The two programs have classed in 7A Region 1 since 2014 and 6A Region 2 before that. The first matchup between the Lions and the Pirates dates all the way back to 1931.
The Lions hold a 54-44 series lead over the Pirates with four of the 102 matchups ending in a draw. Fairhope won the 2024 battle 30-7, and the Lions won the two previous meetings. Current Pirates’ head coach Tim Carter holds a 3-2 record over Lions’ head coach Deric Scott since the two began facing off in 2020.
Fairhope is currently riding a five-game win streak after dropping the season opener to Spanish Fort. The Pirates are sitting at the top of the 7A Region 1 standings with deciding games against Mary G. Montgomery and Daphne still to be played.
Foley is coming off a bye week, sitting at 2-3 on the season with their only region win coming against Robertsdale in Week 3.
The Pirates will rely on a run-stopping defense anchored by seniors Dagan Jones, Oakley Newsome and Elliott Jordan as they look to contain Foley quarterback Makai Holmes, versatile athlete Jaxson Dixon and running back Dominic Martial. On the other side, Fairhope will feature plenty of offensive playmakers in Bryon Martin, Andres Hunt and Fisher Southall, while the Lions counter with defensive standouts William Quarles, Marrio Roberts and Thaelon Henton.
The game will be played Friday, Oct. 3, at Ivan Jones Stadium in Foley.
