DAPHNE, Ala. — Daphne will welcome all lovers of Zydeco music, the Zydeco two-step and Creole/Cajun cooking to the 6th Annual Gulf Coast Zydeco Music and Crawfish Festival May 14 and 15 at the Daphne Civic Center.
Tickets cost $20 each day and are on sale at the Daphne Civic Center.
All activities will be held inside this year; attendees can dance in the Civic Center arena to Zydeco sounds from Southwest Louisiana.
The festival will kick off Friday at 5:30 p.m. with Zydeco dance lessons until 6:30 p.m. and then Lil’ Malcolm and the House Rockers will rock the stage with their own special sounds of Zydeco.
The entertainment lineup also includes Geno Delafose and French Rockin’Boogie, Curly Taylor and Zydeco Trouble, Leon Chavis, Lil’ Wayne and Same Ol’ 2 Step.
There will also be Zydeco dancers in town from Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas and Kentucky, California, Mississippi, Florida, to name a few.
The music is an exotic blend of blues, French and traces of Native American music — all anchored by Afro-Caribbean rhythms. It is a music that now incorporates many contemporary sounds like rock n’ roll, R&B, reggae, funk, blues and other styles of music that vary from artist to artist.
Food will be available for purchase. On the menu for this festival is a crawfish boil with potatoes and corn, shrimp gumbo and jambalaya, Cajun wings, boiled shrimp, sausage dogs, fried shrimp baskets, Cajun hot roast beef sandwiches, bread pudding and more.
