Gulf Shores Adult Activity Center offers 'Something to think about'

The Adult Activity Center, 260 Clubhouse Drive in Gulf Shores, is the place to be select Friday mornings throughout the winter season. The “Something to Think About” series of speakers is sure to entertain and enlighten listeners of all ages.

Come for coffee at 9:30 a.m. and stay for the main event beginning at 10 a.m. Each presentation will last about an hour and is free to the public. FRIDAY: Speaker: Director of Baldwin County Department of Archives and History, John Jackson, explains the many projects they have in the works and invites us to visit such sites as Bicentennial Park and the Swift-Coles Home. Watch a video telling more about this historic County Road 10 tidewater mansion.

JAN. 21: Speaker: Wildlife Biologist, Jackie Isaacs of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. Get an update on the Refuge and learn about plans they have for the coming year.

JAN. 28: Speaker: To Be Determined. The city hopes to to provide an interesting program highlighting the rich heritage of the South Baldwin County area.

 FEB. 4: Speaker: Local volunteer and businesswoman, Evelyn Sanders, was quite involved in early Gulf Shores Mardi Gras celebrations. Enjoy “Queen” Evelyn’s stories and see photos and objects like those on display at Gulf Shores Museum.

FEB. 18: Speaker: Winter visitor, Dick Ramm, is an avid Lewis and Clark enthusiast! Learn more about the historic Corps of Discovery expedition and modern observations from the trail these famous explorers forged.

MARCH 3: Speaker: Author of “Alabama History on the Air”, Robert Glennon, will share photos, stories, and more from his vast knowledge of Alabama history.

MARCH 11:  Speaker: “Turtle Czar”, Mike Reynolds of “Share the Beach” Sea Turtle program. Learn how this local volunteer organization monitors and helps protect threatened and endangered turtles.
