Thanks to a stingy defense, Gulf Shores only gave up four hits, then scattered singles, doubles and triples all over the field, blasting Robertsdale 12-0 at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex on Tuesday.
Senior pitcher Ryan Hadley went the distance for the Dolphins to grab the win. Although he only struck out one batter, the Dolphins were able to get to almost every ball hit and make plays.
Gulf Shores jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI double off the bat of Collin Blankenship, an RBI single from Chad Hartley, and a two-run home run from Kevin Kelso.
The Golden Bears had men in scoring position in the first and second innings but were not able to capitalize because of the field play of the Dolphins.
Gulf Shores exploded for five more runs in the bottom of the second.
Robertsdale pitcher Steven Byrd started the inning by hitting two Dolphin batters. Later Kelso drew a walk that scored a run, Blankenship and Hartley scored off of a wild throw, and sophomore Braydon Bateman knocked in two runs with a double to center field.
In the third and fourth innings, Gulf Shores shut down the Golden Bears three up, three down, then picked up three more runs off of Robertsdale relief pitcher Fred Avera in the bottom of the fourth, pushing the score to 12-0.
Bateman led the Dolphins, going 2-of 3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Junior Collin Blankenship was 2-of-3 with a single, a double and one RBI.

Foley 2
FOLEY – The Gulf Shores Dolphins defeated the Foley Lions 4-2 in high school baseball action on Tuesday night.
Austin Carpenter and Kevin Kelso had two hits and one RBI each in the win.
Justin Anderson had two RBIs in the loss for Foley.
Gulf Shores scored one run each in the first, second and third innings. Foley scored two in the bottom of the third.
