GULF SHORES, Alabama - The Gulf Shores Lady Dolphins dominated the Alabama School of Math and Science Lady Dragons 60-19 in the season opener on Tuesday.

The Lady Dolphins outscored ASMS 40-6 in the second half, holding the Dragons to just three points in each of the final two periods.

"We were a little rusty at first but we played well on defense," first year Gulf Shores coach Austin Boyd said. "Great defense will win a game for you even if you are off on your shots at first."

Senior guard Bethany Ogden, a transfer from Mississippi, led Gulf Shores (1-0) with a game-high 26 points. She scored 16 in the second half.

"Thank God she transferred in, she is a great player," Boyd said. "She was a little cold at the beginning, like everybody else, but she started lighting it up there in the second half. We are excited about that."

Morgan Campbell added eight points, and Nicole Wallace, Sarah Uter and Hannah Wilson had six points apiece in the win for the Lady Dolphins, who host Fairhope on Thursday at 6 p.m.
