Gulf Shores catcher Brandon Davis signs with Jeff Davis

GULF SHORES, Alabama – Gulf Shores senior catcher Brandon Davis will continue his baseball career at Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton this fall.

Davis led the Dolphins in slugging percentage (.755), on base percentage (.579) and batting average (.510) as a senior. He had 52 hits, 34 runs, 29 RBI, seven doubles, four home runs and three triples and was an All-State selection in 2012.

“Baseball is something I just kind of naturally grew into,” Davis said. “I like that it is competitive. My dad played in college and I have always wanted to be able to follow in his footsteps.”

Davis has been part of the Gulf Shores baseball program since his freshman year. He threw out 14-of-16 runners trying to steal and had a .982 fielding percentage as a senior. He also had a 3.11 ERA with 39 strike outs in 36 innings for the Dolphins, who reached the Class 5A playoffs this season.

“I really like catching,” Davis said. “I’ve pitched, and I’ve played in the infield but catching is what I’m best at.”

Gulf Shores head coach Donnie Spohn said Davis is a great all-around player.

“He is the total package,” Spohn said. “He is a very hard worker and he’s intense about what he does. He was our No. 3 hole hitter for four years and any time you need a big hit he’s the one you want at the plate. He has been a leader for our guys. He is the kind of guy every coach wants to coach.”

Darrell Blevins is entering his ninth year as head coach for the Jeff Davis Warhawks. Jeff Davis competes in the Southern Division of the Alabama Community College Conference.

“Brandon is a great person and everybody knows he is a great talent on the baseball field,” Blevins said. “He has all the skills that are needed to play at our level. He is going to be a great fit for our program and what we are trying to do. I look for him to come in and play immediately. I look for him to have a big impact on our program.”

A standout on the baseball diamond, Davis also played wide receiver for the Dolphins football team.
