The Gulf Shores First Presbyterian Church donated $619.50, the proceeds from sales of art at their recent Art Show, to the Art Program at the Gulf Shores Elementary school.
Principal Julie Pierce and art teacher Yvette Jones said that because of budget cut backs the art program has not received funding for supplies for three years. Artist Paul Welch and Art Show coordinator Janet Bauer came with Rev. Steven Kurtz to present the check to the school in the hope that young artist can be encouraged to explore their gifts in the early formative years of their lives.
"We need art to be fully human, as God has made us, in his image, to be co-creators of beauty, and to tell truths that only art can tell," said Rev. Kurtz. Plans for the Art Show next year will include student artist's works as well.
