MONTGOMERY, Ala.— The No. 6 Auburn Montgomery baseball team advanced to play in the 60th Annual Avista-NAIA World Series from May 27-June 3 in Lewiston, Idaho. Heading west on the team will be AUM junior infielder Brandon Davis. The former GSHS Dolphin joined the Warhawks after a standout freshman and sophomore run at Jeff Davis.
The Warhawks (45-15) secured the 2016 World Series berth with an NAIA Baseball National Bracket Championship at home Friday with an 8-7, extra-inning comeback victory over No. 2 seed Keiser. This is the AUM program’s fourth ticket to the Avista-NAIA BWS to be held at Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston.
Davis has started all 60 games this year and averaged nearly a hit-per game with 58 (11 doubles, 3 homeruns, 29 RBIs, 33 runs). He’s hitting a solid .282 with a slugging percentage of .379 and scoring a .950 fielding.
Prior to AUM: Davis played two seasons for head coach Darrell Blevins at Jeff Davis Community College and posted a team-high batting average of .355, with a team-best 60 hits in 169 at bats as a sophomore. He led the team in doubles (19), home runs (2) and RBIs (23), compiled a slugging percentage of .503, also a team best and scored 23 runs to go with an on-base percentage of .398. He had multiple hits in 16 games and multiple RBIs in seven.
2014: Davis collected 40 hits in 40 games as a freshman for a .310 average, knocked eight extra-base hits on the year, with six doubles and a team-high two triples. He drove in 25 and scored 26 runs
At Gulf Shores High: He lettered four years in baseball under head coach Donnie Spohn; batted .510 his senior season, with 52 hits and 29 RBIs and was selected as a participant in the Alabama All Star Game following his senior season. He also lettered four years in football.
