GULF SHORES, Alabama — Gulf Shores scored just five points in the first period but finished strong to pick up an 82-63 win over Gardendale in the first round of the Coca-Cola tournament at Gulf Shores on Monday.

Gulf Shores (8-2) got game-high 21 points from Brandon Silvers and 20 from Ryan Godwin in the win. The Dolphins will face Monroe Co. (Tenn.) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the second round of the tournament.

"Gardendale is a good team, they played extremely hard and their defense is one of the best we have seen all year," Gulf Shores coach Clint Wigley said. "I am very proud of our guys. In the first half we were a bit sluggish, but we came out in the second half and did a very good job."

Kendall Annan added 15 points, Isaac Ronan had nine and Tyler Stargel eight in the win for Gulf Shores.

The Dolphins made 24-of-46 free throws, while Gardendale was 9-of-22 from the line. Jeremy Gardner and Nathan Sheffield had 18 points apiece for the Rockets, who are scheduled to play in the losers' bracket tomorrow afternoon.
