Gulf Shores honors police chaplains

GULF SHORES, Ala. —The volunteer chaplains for the Gulf Shores Police Department were honored for their service in 2012 at Dec. 10’s City Council meeting.

Jody Kranz, Minister of Discipleship/Children at Gulf Shores United Methodist Church and Bruce Dumond, lead pastor at Gulfway Church, received plaques and certificates.

“The program started in 2008 I asked them to start logging their hours this year,” Community Resource Officer Josh Coleman said. “After combining their hours for all of 2012 there was a total of 330 total hours of volunteer time. That’s basically 30 hours a month provided and take in mind that they both have large congregations that they are also responsible for serving.”

Mayor Robert Craft offered the city’s thanks to the chaplains.

“Looking out for our officers as they do the dangerous work of policing our city is much appreciated,” Craft said. “Keeping the hand of God on their shoulders is needed and necessary. Thank you very much.”
