GULF SHORES, Ala. — As of 2009, more than 203 million Americans had texting plans as part of their cell phone service.
In the past year alone, the increased use of cell phones on a daily basis has risen 107 percent with 2.3 billion text messages being sent every day.
When compared to phone calls made, the average cell phone user makes 204 phone calls per month compared to 357 texts per month.
While communication by texting continues to grow, it will be put to a stop if you are a city employee in Gulf Shores.
Recommended by one of the city’s loss prevention representatives, council members are expected to pass an amendment to the employee handbook that would include a no texting policy to the cell phone usage policy for employees.
“It makes pretty good sense to me,” said Mayor Robert Craft at Monday’s committee of the whole meeting.
The Amendment will be voted on at Monday’s regular council meeting.
