What is STREAM and what does it stand for?  Well four students Katelin Kenyon, Emily Davis, Abby Phillips, and Taylor Brown along with two teachers, Mr. Wil Tuggle, Ms. Debbie Kenyon, and city official Grant Brown went to New Orleans to find out. STREAM means “Students Reporting Environmental Action through Media.” We are going to tell you about our experience.

We learned that a citizen journalist can be anyone, even you. A citizen journalist is a person reporting about their community. We also learned writing techniques and film rolling, editing film, taking B-rolls, and interviewing techniques. We met with Philippe Cousteau and Kathy Kaye, authors of the book “Going Blue.”  We also worked with many other workers from the organization Earth Echo.

We plan to apply what we learned at the workshop through our organization C.E.O. When a crisis happens or news occurs, we can announce it correctly and efficiently. If you are in a group and would like to learn more tips on writing and/or filming techniques ask us, we will be happy to help you.

We also had fun in New Orleans. While learning was great, we got to explore the city and its culture. We ate beignets on Bourbon Street, walked to Jackson Square, took a carriage ride around the city, and explored the Audubon Aquarium. Emily Davis stated, “It was a fun trip, and a great experience.” Abby Phillips said, “I couldn't pick my favorite thing.” Taylor Brown said, “It was exciting.” and Katelin Kenyon stated, “I learned so much and had so much fun, I will never forget this experience.”  As you can see we had a blast and are now prepared for our reporting futures.
