GULF SHORES, Ala. – If you have old electronic equipment lying around that needs tossed, Saturday is the day to get rid of that junk and help the environment as well.
The cities of Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, the Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce, Gulf State Park and the Clean Island Partnership are hosting partnering for the Fourth Annual E-cycling Day at the Park’s beach Pavilion on Saturday.
Citizens can drop off unwanted electronic equipment at the parking lot at the pavilion on the beach. Another drop-off point will be LuLu’s restaurant. Collections will be from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
“The weather looks to be perfect so we’re looking for a big turnout,” Gulf Shores Councilman Steve Jones said.
Jones has been involved from the beginning of the program and says it has enjoyed success its first three years.
“It’s been excellent,” he said. “We’ve collected anywhere from seven to 19 tons of stuff and we hope this one’s going to be real big, too.”
Accepted in the recycling effort are computer components including hard drives, cables, wiring, keyboards, mice and power supplies. Also accepted will be fax machines, telephones, cellphones, battery backups, printers, scanners, copiers, printer cartridges.
Computers monitors will cost $7 to recycle and TVs are not accepted.
