Music lovers will enjoy the warm summer months as the City of Gulf Shores offers their 20th year of free music as part of the Gulf Shores Out and In 2010 program.
The lineup for 2010 is packed with special performances by favorite and familiar artists as well as new and exciting acts that you don’t want to miss.
On Friday June 11, the Air National Guard Band of the South will be the featured. This large group performs a varied program of light classics, popular favorites, instrumental features, as well as traditional concert band pieces.
Cool Change, made up of Walter Tatum, John Andrews, David Horton and Charlie Hathcock, bring smooth harmony and rich vocal sounds to your favorite songs from the 50s through today.
Everyone’s favorite, the annual Gulf Shores Fireworks Show, will be held on Sunday, July 4. Visible from almost anywhere along the Gulf Shores beach area, the fireworks are accompanied simultaneously by patriotic music heard on Gulf Shores’ Sunny 105.7 FM. Parking areas fill up quickly for this one, so get to the beach early and find your spot to enjoy the sights and sounds of Independence Day.
Doing hits like “All Shook Up,” “Hound Dog,” and “Blue Suede Shoes,” Shane Tucker’s “Elvis Remembered” tribute is sure to be a crowd pleaser. You can catch this show on July 15.
July 22, Mithril, South Alabama’s best-known professional quartet will present some high-energy Celtic music from Ireland and Scotland.
Backed by live musicians, Doug Breau and Katie Belle present Great American Classics on Thursday, Aug. 12. These vocal professionals will stir memories as they sing songs from the 40s through the 70s including both country and western tunes as well as pop standards.
The Heltons will be featured on Aug. 26. Don’t miss this three-generation family band and their crowd-pleasing variety of music. From country, gospel, pop and more, the heartfelt music will make for a lively show.
The final performance of the year will be an outdoor event featuring Brent Burns. An Island favorite returns with his beach-flavored witty compositions. Be sure to bring a mat or chair to sit on, and in case of rain the show will go on indoors. Each concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center on the corner of West 19th Avenue and West Second Street, in Gulf Shores.
