Free live music on the beach? In a Park? Inside a civic center and then out? Sounds like a unique variety in venues to see bands as all a part of one series. It is, and it’s held right here in Gulf Shores.

The Gulf Shores Outdoors and In Concert Series is again offering a wide range of opportunities for residents and visitors alike to see some of the great live music acts available locally and to see them in a variety of the great local venues that the area has to offer.

In the month of June, there will be four such opportunities that are completely free to all attendees. Beginning on June 2 with Shane Tucker’s Elvis Remembered tribute show will bring the King himself back to the Gulf area. This indoor show will be held at the Erie Meyer Civic Center. The next event will move outside to the public beach at Gulf Shores on June 14 with the 313th Army Band out of Birmingham.

June 16 will be the “Music at Meyer” part of the series with Grayson Capps and the Lost Cause Minstrels rocking the outside venue of Meyer Park. The last event in June will also be an outdoor show, but will be held outside the civic center on June 30. This show will feature Brent Burns and Sunny Jim’s unique tropical rock.

All shows begin at 6 p.m. and attendees can bring anything they need to feel comfortable, including chairs, blankets, water, etc., especially for the outdoor shows. All shows are free and are designed for the whole family.

The Outdoor and In series has been held for at least the Past five years and is so named because of the change of settings of the venues.

During the past few years, the city has done more to “think outside the box” and has planned more and more events, according to Lesley Dethloff, program and events supervisor for the city of Gulf Shores. The concerts typically see anywhere from 200 to 500 attendees, according to Dethloff.

“The city has been able to do so many wonderful things,” Dethloff said. “We try to utilize different areas of our city to let the folks know we have great venues all year round.”

These concerts are designed to reach all age groups and appeal to everyone, according to Dethloff.

The city plans on adding more programs and activities to this series and throughout the year as they move forward.

“We want to do things for our citizens. We want to create memories,” Dethloff said. “It’s just one more thing the city of Gulf Shores offers to our residents.”

Other events will be held later in the summer and even into September. Check back to Beachin’ for more events or visit cityofgulfshores.org. For more information on the Outdoors and In Concert Series, visit the above  mentioned Web site or call 251-968-1171.
