GULF SHORES, Ala. --  On Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 7:51 p.m., Dana Molder Berg, age 40, of Foley reported a robbery to Gulf Shores Police. Berg told police that she was delivering the night deposit to Hancock Bank (1801 Gulf Shores Parkway) for her employer when a man grabbed the bags and fled the area on foot.

A perimeter was established to contain the suspect and a GSPD canine was deployed for a search. GSPD Detectives became suspicious when K9 Vice, a highly trained and trusted police service dog did not locate a track in the area Berg told officers the suspect ran. Armed with this information and other evidence, Detectives began to suspect the robbery was staged.

Dana Molder Berg was arrested on June 5, 2012 after Detectives obtained her confession for falsely reporting the crime.  She is being charged with Theft of Property 1st degree and Falsely reporting an incident. Berg’s husband Andrew George Berg, age 35, of Foley has also been arrested and charged with Theft of Property 1st. Andrew Berg was the staged robber and evidence obtained after the fact confirmed that K9 Vice was correct all along.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Detective Mark Russell at 251-968-2431 or the Gulf Shores Police Department’s Crime Line at 251-968-1499.
