Gulf Shores receives bids on Fourth of July fireworks

Posted

Proposals have been received from two companies hoping to secure the opportunity to produce the July 4th fireworks show in Gulf Shores for 2011.

Pyro Shows and Pyrotechnico, both of who have contracted with the city in the past to produce the presentation along the beach, have presented the city with their proposals which include the number of shells they will fire, the duration of the program and the quality points produced by their individual shows.

In addition, the city asked each company to provide a three-year option, which was a determining factor in deciding which company to use.

“Our recommendation is to use Pyro Shows,” said parks and recreation representative Brigette Reynolds. “They worked with us last year when we had a last minute move, and they will also give us credit for any un-shot shells. If there is a misfire or a problem, they will transfer those and shoot them the following year.”

Pyro Shows is based in LaFollette, TN and has produced shows for  the National Park Service in Washington, DC at the Nation’s Independence Day Celebration.

Reynolds also said that Pyro Shows had agreed to keep the $31,500 price for the 4,400 shell show for each of the three years, where Pyrotechnico would impose a 5% price increase each year. The cost falls within the $40,000 budgeted for the event.

Council is expected to approve the recommendation at Monday’s regular council meeting.
