MOBILE, Ala. — St. Paul's swept first place in the boys and girls 5A Section 1 track meet at McGill-Toolen Catholic this week. But both Gulf Shores and Spanish Fort will be sending a number of athletes to the 5A state meet in Gulf Shores this weekend.
Spanish Fort’s Lauren Moorer took first and teammate Latifa Thomas second in the 5A Girls Shot Put with the top throw of 31-feet, 05.75-inches and one of 30-10.75 for second.
In the girls discus, Gulf Shores’ Allison Taylor won for the Lady Dolphins with a toss of 82-feet, 2-inches. Moorer of SFHS was second and Amanda Brett of GSHS was third.
In the girls javelin, Jackie Smith of Spanish Fort won with a 106-foot, 10-inch throw. Lady Toro teammate Thomas was second, Taylor and Brett of GSHS took third and fourth.
Marcus Walton of Spanish Fort took third in the 5A boys javelin at 150-00.
In track events, Taylor took third in the girls 300 hurdles for GSHS, SFHS senior Trevor Stevens was fifth in the boys 800 and Smith was fourth in the girls 800 for SFHS.
St. Paul’s swept the girls 1600’s top three spots, but Katrina Garafano of SFHS was 4th in the girls 1600, Ashley May of GSHS fifth and Emma Everson of SF sixth.
In the boys mile (1600), Stevens of SFHS was a close second behind St. Paul’s Dan Drew’s winning 4:47.16. In the 3200, Garofano and Everson were fourth and sixth for the girls. Connor Irion of SFHS took fourth and Charles Peavy of GSHS sixth in the boys.
In the girls 4x400 relay the SFHS team of Aren Valrie, Smith, Bria Gipson and Cheyenne Moody took second behind Demopolis.
The SF boys also took second in the 4x400 behind LeFlore.The Toros legs were run by Davares Ambrose, Jeremiah Moodey, Garrett Horst and Michael Conniff.
