GULF SHORES, AL. — This afternoon at the Gulf Shores City Council meeting the panel will discuss a special-events liquor license at Gulf State Park's beach pavilion during Thunder on the Gulf boat races Oct. 6-9.

The council meets at 5 p.m. at City Hall. State Park superintendent Mike Guinn has already give the OK from the state park.

Also up for consideration is a resolution on whether the city needs to hire a consultant to help establish zoning rules for parks for recreational vehicles.

From the today's agenda: The City is experiencing an unusually large volume of rezoning requests for RV parks. As stated in our Comprehensive Plan, “Recreational vehicle developments are a land use type that require special consideration on the part of the city. In an effort to more specifically identify areas suitable for the City to consider. rezoning land for recreational vehicle parks, the City proposes to hire KPS Group. KPS will determine RV development locations based on a comprehensive study of the current physical development of the City and sound land use practices. This will result in an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance to specify criteria for recreational vehicle parks and an amendment to the future lLand Use Plan to identify appropriate locations for this type of development.

Right now this is not clearly defined.

The council will also discuss re-evaluating an August resolution concerning a group of condos destroyed by Hurricane Ivan on East Beach Boulevard. Our Point of View was originally a 10-town house complex just to the East of Royal Palms condominiums. Some of the owners want to rebuild, but the recommendation of the planning commission and backed by the council's 3-2 vote stated nine of the 10 units must be constructed simultaneously.

Owners of Royal Palms backed the vote.

The council will also consider assembly permits for a Fall Festival at Pelican Place and for the Gulf Shores High School homecoming parade.
