Gulf Shores trio signs with Huntingdon

GULF SHORES, Ala. —Three Gulf Shores High School student-athletes signed with Hungtindon College Thursday at the school library.

Brandon Anglin, who played defensive line and linebacker for the football team, Channing White, who played right wing for the Lady Dophins soccer team, and Turner Adcock, who played center midfield for the Dolphins men's soccer team, became Hawks at the signing event.

“We are thrilled to have three quality students from Gulf Shores High School,” Michelle Johnson, admission counselor for the college, said. "We know these students will be great additions both on and off the field and great additions to Huntingdon College."

The three seniors expressed excitement about moving into the next chapter of their lives.

"I'm ready to go out there and work hard," Anglin said.

"I don't have words to explain how excited I am," White said. "Being a student-athlete showed me how much I can handle."

"I'm very proud of being a Dolphin," Adcock said. "Even when I'm at Huntingdon College, I'll still be representing Gulf Shores."

Anglin averaged 84 tackles and eight sacks a year as a three-year starter with the Dolphins. He transferred from Foley High School after his freshman year and made the all-county team twice.

White averaged eight goals and 20 assists per year for the Lady Dolphins, starting for four years and providing senior leadership to the Lady Dolphins.

"She's a real tough player," Tatum Saltz, men's soccer head coach said. "She's also very strong on throw-ins, so she has some assists, too."

Adcock led Gulf Shores with 14 goals this season, and Saltz said he should make the All-County team.

"He stepped up this year," Saltz said. "He controlled the flow of the game and we're still rolling because of him."

Adcock and White's seasons continued last weekend in the second round of the state soccer playoffs.

A GSHS official deemed the college "lucky" to have the three Dolphins.

"These three are the ones that put the time into the books and studies to be able to go to college," Mark Glassford, GSHS assistant principal, said. "Being a student-athlete is not easy. Most people don't do it because they can't do it."
