GULF SHORES, Ala. – The City of Gulf Shores was recently presented with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of America (GFOA) for the City’s 2012 budget.
This marks the second consecutive year Gulf Shores has received the award, which is the highest honor given to local governments from the GFOA.
“The City’s Finance and Administrative Services Department, under the guidance and direction of the Finance Committee, has teamed with each City department to produce the award-winning budget document,” Cindy King, Finance and Administrative Services Director said. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire administration and staff.”
According to the GFOA, the award represents a significant achievement by its recipients. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communication device.
“The Finance Committee takes great pride in working with the City staff to produce a budget that is not only fiscally sound, but one that is straightforward and as transparent as possible,” Finance Committee Chairman Jason Dyken said. “Our commitment to serving our stakeholders and being responsible with the use of their dollars is at the forefront of everything we do. Receiving this award for the second consecutive year is a tremendous honor and we look forward to building upon this success in the future.”
