Gwen Powell, age 76, born in Auburndale, Fla. and a resident of Bay Minette,died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at her residence.
She was the secretary for the president of Faulkner State for over 30 years. She is survived by her children, Keith (Viki) Powell of Mobile; Kelly (Kelly) Powell of Memphis, Tenn.; Karen Powell (Scott) Reaves of Newnan, Ga., and Kyle (Angela) Powell of Bay Minette; one brother, Larry Eugene Graddy of Anniston; two sisters, Linda Graddy Martin of Enterprise and Patricia Graddy Sellers of Merrimac, Wis.; sister and brother-in-laws, Judy Valine of Bay Minette; Tom Waters of Bay Minette and Gene and Denise Waters of Jackson, Ala.; grandchildren, Kristen Spears, Kit Powell, Caitlin Powell, Blake Powell, Grant Powell, Laura Leigh Reaves, Hunter Reaves, Austin Reaves, Eli Powell, Eve Powell and Ellie Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Newton “Sonny” Powell. The funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 from noon until the 2 p.m. service at the First Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Kit Powell, Blake Powell, Grant Powell, Hunter Reaves, Austin Reaves and Eli Powell. Although the family will accept flowers they suggest memorial contributions be made to the Carlin Davis Care Fund at Regions Bank in Bay Minette.
