Gwenita Dale Sims Harris, beloved wife, daughter and sister, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014 at her home in Fairhope after a brief illness.

Mrs. Harris was born to Beverly Floyd Sims and Richard Dale Sims on March 22, 1953 in Shreveport, La., and moved with her family to Jackson, Miss. as a child.

She attended Jackson Public Schools and graduated from Council School in 1970. She attended Millsaps College where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Years later, she continued her education at Millsaps by earning her BBA in accounting, which led to an accomplished administrative career.

She was also a licensed real estate agent in both South Carolina and Alabama.

On Aug. 1, 1986, she married Edward Crampton Harris III of Birmingham and Orange Beach.

Together they owned and operated Flip Side Records in Gulf Shores, a moving/transport company and Harris Builders of South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by both her father and husband.

She is survived by her mother; sister, Sheryl and husband Marshall Ray Magee; nephew, Richard Michael Magee, wife Dendy Grider Magee and their children Davis and Elizabeth; niece, Stacey Elizabeth Magee Gloer and her daughter Kathryn; her stepson, Jordan Crampton Harris, wife Katherine Thrasher and their daughter Ashley Lanier Harris; as well as sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dottee” Harris.

An Anglican graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on March 28, 2015 at the cemetery on the grounds of Rosemont Plantation in Woodville, Miss., which was the summer home of Jefferson Davis. Mrs. Harris will be interred with her husband, who was a direct descendant of President Davis.
