Anna Riley Crenshaw Haas, born Sept 7, 1918, a long time resident of Fairhope and the Eastern Shore, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009.

She was born in Andalusia (Covington County), where she was raised and educated. She first settled in the Eastern Shore village of Battles Wharf in 1942, then on Magnolia Avenue in Fairhope, and in her final residence on Fairhope Avenue in 1946, where she resided until her death.

She was a successful businesswoman, along with her husband. Together, they owned several businesses, including Southern Marine Supply Co. in Mobile. They traveled extensively, and enjoyed many happy years at their country home – “Riley’s Ridge,” in Sumter County.

She was a devout Christian, and very generous in donating to those less fortunate.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Col. and Mrs. Allen Crenshaw; sisters, Bonnie Crenshaw Kowall and Carolyn Crenshaw Thompson; and a brother, Charles E. Crenshaw.

Surviors include her husband of 48 years, William Oliver Haas; four children, Charles Allen (Ilse) Hall, Don (Julianne) Hall, Nancy Ann (James) Dennis and Patricia (William Cinque) Dujour; six grandchildren Anthony, Michael, Andrew and Jamie Hall, Angela Hall Wolf, Janet “Angel” Curtin and Carolyn Hall Hemb and their respective spouses; brother, Dr. Allen (Jackie) Crenshaw of Dallas; 10 great-grandchildren, Riley Anne Wolf, Tyler Hall, Nicholas Hemb, Isabella Hemb, Claudia Hemb, Lauren Hall, Anne Marie Hall, Eva Hemb, Gracie Hall and John Ryan Hall; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to express their thanks to Juanita Allen, owner of “Heavenly Sent” of Daphne. They would like to express their gratitude for the caregivers provided by this company. The family also expressed eternal gratitute for the women of the Davis family, who worked tirelessly to make sure that she had the best care possible.

Special mention is for Ernest Safford, a dedicated and loyal family employee since 1946. They were not only employer and employee, but friends.

Also mentioned is the late Lodie Winston, and James “Cherokee” Mitchell, who were dedicated family employees.

There are many others, but too numerous to list herein. Their efforts are also very much appreciated as well.

Visitation begins at 1 p.m. with a memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. Interment will follow at Colony Cemetery, Fairhope.
