FOLEY, Ala. — Habitat for Humanity will begin building its 100th Baldwin County house in Foley on Saturday.
According to Habitat Neighborhood Revitalization Coordinator Alex Cary, the house that will be located at 408 Magnolia St., marks a milestone for the organization as well as its recipient.
“Our 100th house represents hope for one homeowner,” she said in a news release. “She’s a single mother with two daughters. It is also a tangible symbol of the strong foundation of hope Habitat for Humanity has built in Baldwin County and the continued need that exists here.”
This past weekend, the location was prepared for construction by way of a blessing. This Saturday, work on the structure will begin at 9 a.m.
“We are going to be framing the house on the 28th,” Cary said in a phone interview.
After that, construction will continue each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, in hopes of a June 30 finish.
“We are going to be dedicating this on June 30th,” Cary said. “We hope to be done by then.”
To ensure that completion, Habitat is seeking volunteers for the project.
“Anything to do with building a house,” Cary said.
She explained that while such projects are part of Habitat’s ongoing mission, this one has extra significance because it will help mark the organization’s 20th anniversary in Baldwin County.
“Through 20 years, hundreds of volunteers, dozens of partner homeowners and many generous sponsors have been a part of the affiliate’s mission of providing decent, affordable homes,” Cary said in the release.
She explained that while volunteers are still being sought, several who have worked with or been impacted by Habitat in the past plan to be a part of the milestone.
“The 100th home will be a reunion for many of the volunteers and families who have been a part of Habitat’s 20-year history here,” she said. “We have partner families, families who now own Habitat houses, along with volunteers from years ago who are coming back to work on this house. This is like a family reunion for our entire Habitat family.”
