Briana Lucas, a student at Gulf Shores High School, was selected as one of the four models for Scruples at this year's Hair Expo. Rob Smith, General Manager for Scruples, took one look at Briana when she came in the door for auditions and immediately said, “I want her! She has that perfect surfer girl look and that’s what we want!” Mr. Smith asked Briana a few questions and before she knew it, she was being swept away for “prep.” Smith further stated, “He would love to use Briana in future shows that they have scheduled and furthermore, she is a natural on the runway." Scruples provided costumes and hair designs for Briana.
To be selected, all interested models had to attend a casting call which was held at The Orange Beach Event Center on Saturday, March 17, 2012. Want-to-be models drove hundreds of miles for the auditions. Liz Ayers stated before the casting call, “We are looking for 60 to 70 male and female models ages 15 to 55 years old to participate in our show. Hair length needs to long enough to style or cut. We have no height or weight requirements for models." Each applicant was given a consultation by the artists. Then the artists discussed each applicant during the selection process.
Guest artists included the following: Rhonda Schaffter and David Steiner, designers for Scruples; Vincent Maxwell, designer for Kevin Murphy; Philip Wilson, designer for ColorProof; Trevor Tobin, designer for Surface; Michael Duenas and Shannon Tranter, designers for Schwarzkoph Profession.
