On May 8, 11 women and four men from Fairhope participated in the Gulf Coast Triathlon (Half-Ironman distance) in Panama City, Fla. They were among approximately 850 participants. These athletes swam 1.2 miles, biked 56 miles, then ran 13.1 miles.

Individual female participants were Jenna Smart, Michelle Smith, Trin Ollinger, Vicki O’Neill, Carrie French, Kelly Lyons, Karin Wilson and Karen Sledge.

Relay team members were Kristen Smith (swim), Angie McCool (bike) and Jacky Caban (run).

Individual male participants were Stewart O’Neill and Andy Smith.

Male relay team members were Willie Smith (swim/bike) and Ron Coyle (run).

We applaud these athletes on their effort, perseverance and success. All finished. Several placed in their age group. We wish them well in their future endeavors. You Go, Girls and Guys!
