Don Hall, 69, of San Destin, Fla., former resident of Memphis, Tenn., and Fairhope, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 25, 1940 in Jackson, Miss., and raised in Fairhope. He married his high school sweetheart, Julianne Fortenberry Hall in 1959 and recently they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

They moved to Memphis in 1972 where he started Southern Wire Corporation and invested in several other businesses in the Memphis and surrounding areas. He retired to San Destin, Fla., in 2007.

He was a loving and devoted father to his three children and derived much of his greatest joy from his five grandchildren. He supported the Child Advocacy Center of Memphis and volunteered with The Boy Scouts of America. He was also an avid golfer and hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace R. Hall and Anna Riley Haas. 

Survivors include his wife, Julianne Hall; three children, Anthony Allan (Candy) Hall of Bartlett, Tenn., Angela Hall Wolf of Memphis, Tenn., and Andrew Riley (Kiki) Hall of Germantown, Tenn.; five grandchildren: Riley, Lauren, Anne Marie, Gracie and Ryan; two sisters, Trisha DuJuor (Bill Cinque) of Tarzana, Calif., and Nancy (James) Dennis of Fairhope; brother, Charlie (Isle) Hall of Mandeville, La.; step-father, W.O.Haas of Fairhope; sister-in-law, Claudia (Jim) Barrett of Gainesville, Fla.; three nieces and a nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6 at the Church of the Resurrection in Miramar Beach, Fla.

The family requests memorial donations be made to M.D. Anderson in Houston or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis so that they may continue their vital research in the fight against cancer.
