James Coy “J.C.” Hall, 79, a resident of Hurdle Mills, N.C., died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at his home.

He was born in Person County, the son of Lela Hall and Coy McKinley Hall.

He served in the U.S. Army, 424th Field Artillery Battalion, during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a farmer and after retirement worked part-time at Clements Funeral Service Inc.

He was a member of Cedar Grove Ruritan Club, Caldwell Hunting Club, Schley American Legion and Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. He was well known for his barbecue sauce and had been a Hillsborough Hog Day cook-off winner many times.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Lucille “Patsy” Ellis Hall.

Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Hall Parker of Hurdle Mills, N.C.; sons, Thomas Coy (Jo Ann) Hall of Graham, N.C., William Edward (Elaine) Hall of Mebane, N.C., and Allan Monroe (Judy) Hall of Mebane; nine grandchildren, Robin (Johnny) Weddle Will Hall, John Hall, Jennifer (Dwayne) Allred, James C. Parker, Neal Huffman, Brad Huffman, James Satterfield and Elise Satterfield; and four great-grandchildren, Johnny Weddle, III, Jacqueline Weddle, Joseph Weddle and Kadden Satterfield.

Visitation will be held fro 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27 at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church in Hurdle Mills and other times at the home of his daughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28 at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stuart Milton officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund or Parsonage Fund, 7215 Walnut Grove Church Road, Hurdle Mills, NC 27541.
