Halloween activities abound on island

GULF SHORES, Ala. — The island will soon be overtaken by ghosts, goblins and maybe even a Catman but before all should hide under the covers take note of the upcoming Halloween happenings.

Both the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach will take a haunting turn for the fall holiday this Saturday with hair raising, fundraising events.

Orange Beach will hold its 2nd annual Haunted Hayride at Catman Trail to benefit the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail.

The ride will twist through local woods and right into the thickets of Catman’s lair.

Nicole Woerner, coastal research planner for Orange Beach, said the trail will be filled with helpings of haunted brouhaha.

“I cannot give away too many details,” Woerner said. “We never know if the Catman will show up, but we do know that the ‘Legend of Catman’ lives.”

Money earned will fund the maintenance and upkeep of the trail. The Haunted Hayride will run from 7:30-11 p.m.

Gulf Shores will hold its annual Family Fun Night with the addition of the Boneyard Bash for canine spooks.

Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday a pup parade will line up and head to the dog park for a costume contest and games.

A Halloween carnival will follow from 6-8 p.m. at the Bodenhamer Recreation Center, with a costume contest, carnival games and black light volleyball.

“If someone’s come in the past they will definitely want to come check out the new games this year,” program coordinator Brigette Reynolds said.

Gulf Shores will also have a haunted hayride and the money raised will go to help the city swim team.

“This is something that little kids to middle school kids can enjoy,” Reynolds said.

Contact each city for more information on events.
