Judith Carol Hammontree, 65 of Montrose, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.

She was a loving wife and mother, provided a lifetime of cherished memories and was always an encourager to others. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 27, and much of her physical life was characterized by the challenges of the disease, but was overshadowed by her sweet nature, her positive outlook, and her love of good things. She was a member of the Fairhope Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Maggie Hornbeak of Fairhope; and two brothers, Joe Don Hornbeak and Richard Wayne Hornbeak.

Survivors include her loving husband, James E. Hammontree of Montrose; three daughters, Margaret Michelle Latham (Scott) of Montgomery, Sandra Renee Hammontree of Magnolia Springs, and Debra Lea Norton (Phillip) of Wetumpka; four grandchildren, Abby Michelle Latham, Caroline Anne Latham, Dylan James Norton, and Anna Kate Norton.

A private family graveside service will be held at Silverhill Cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Alabama Chapter, 3840 Ridgeway Drive, Homewood, AL 35209 or the charity of your choice.
