GULF SHORES, Ala. — In the interest of public safety, traffic flow and environmental conservation, The Hangout Beach Music and Arts Festival is announcing its public transportation plan. A shuttle system is now in place, and ample bicycle rentals and parking will also be available. For non-local festival attendees, Zimride.com is hosting a Ride Share application for the event.

There will be three shuttle routes running north, west and east from 10 a.m.-12 a.m. today through Sunday. Each shuttle ride will cost patrons $3, which may be payable in cash upon boarding. Weekend all-you-can-ride passes are also available at $10 per rider.

The North Route will have three Park and Ride stops: Wal Mart (170 Fort Morgan Road, Gulf Shores); Bruno’s  (Ratcliff Village, Highway 59 S., Gulf Shores); Cobb Pinnacle 14 Theatre (3780 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores). The East Route will make six Park and Ride stops: Surf Style (400 E. Beach Blvd, Gulf Shores); Gulf State Park Campgrounds (20115 Hwy. 135, Gulf Shores); Gulf State Park Pavilion (20115 Hwy. 135, Gulf Shores); Surf Style (25033 Perdido Beach Blvd., Orange Beach); Winn Dixie (25405 Perdido Beach Blvd., Orange Beach); Surf Style, Perdido Pass (27401 Perdido Beach Blvd., Orange Beach).

The West Route will be making two stops, both of which are non-parking options: Pier 33 (900 W. Beach Blvd., Gulf Shores); Waves Grocery and Package-West Beach Grille (1154 W. Beach Blvd, Gulf Shores).

Portions of Highway 59 will be closed through 6 a.m. on Monday. It will be closed for public access for all points south of First Street. Beach Boulevard will be closed from East First Street to West Second Street. West First Street will also be closed south of West First Avenue.

For festival attendees who prefer to feel the wind in their hair, Orange Beach Bicycles is the official bicycle provider for The Hangout Beach Music and Arts Festival. To rent a bicycle, call (251) 974-2025, or visit www.obbicycles.com.

It is recommended that bikers bring and use their own locks.

Non-local festival travelers are encouraged to carpool in the interest of conservation, and a Ride Share application is being hosted by Zimride. Travelers may find a ride or someone to pitch in for gas: http://www.zimride.com/p/ep/The-Hangout-Beach/343.

For festival patrons that wish to drive, parking will be available in the surrounding neighborhoods, similar to the organic parking system used during the Shrimp Festival.

In the interest of public safety, there will be a no-boating zone extending 500 feet south from the festival site.
