Mary Ellis Hansen, 66, a native of Evergreen and a longtime resident of Daphne, died on May 15, 2008 at a local hospital.
She attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
She was a graduate of the University of South Alabama and taught school for 27 years at Fairhope High School and Daphne High School.
She received three Fulbright scholarships, choosing to study in the Middle East and China. For 20 years she worked in the People to People student ambassador program and traveled to six continents including Antarctica.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lois Ellis.
Survivors include a son, Max A. (Lisa) Hansen III; two grandchildren, Max A. Hansen IV and Ann Bradford Hansen; brother, Herbert (Rita) Ellis, four sisters, Brenda (Jerry) Eddins , Linda Palmer, Sharron Marquis and Susan (Ben) Jones; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. with a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at Wolfe Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne.
The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Paul's Thrift Shop, 28788 N. Main Street, Daphne, AL 36526.
