FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The brisk winter chill did not deter locals from gathering in downtown Fairhope Wednesday evening to welcome in the new year.
DJ Wade Wellborn manned the karaoke stage where even the youngest in attendance had the opportunity to do the "Chicken Dance," which was added to the rock 'n' roll mix. At the Church Street stage, Target played for dancers and listeners alike.
As the time for the ball drop approached, folks donned their party favors and blew festive horns in anticipation.
After the glittering ball reached its resting place, the first salvo of fireworks was heard and a short but splendid pyrotechnic display ensued. This year the fog stayed away and everyone got a clear view of the aerial bursts.
