Harry Frederick Wanninger, a native of Birmingham and resident of Gulf Shores, died Feb. 17, 2012, after battling lung cancer. He was 65 years old.
Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserves, excelling to the rank of Sergeant. He spent over 40 years in sales of appliances, furniture, and bedding in Birmingham and Foley. Fred and his son’s Bobby’s store in Foley — Hurricane’s Mattress Outlet — has been known by many since 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Shelia Wanninger; son, Greg (Gia) Wanninger of Springville; daughter, Judy (Robby) Smith of Alabaster; Bobby (Alanna) Wanninger of Foley; step-son, Wade (Debra) Hughes of Atlanta; step-son, Thomas Boshell of Brewton; brother, Robert (Carol) Wanninger of Chelsea; sisters, Nancy Tingle of Loganville, Ga., and Fay (Gerald) Crawford of Waxahatchie, Texas; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to time of service, with interment to follow in Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.
