Hartley Elvin Nelson Jr., 65, a lifelong resident of Fairhope, passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and was wounded in Vietnam, earning the Purple Heart.

He was lifetime member of the V.F.W., Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Marine Corps League.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Ethel Nelson; a son, Michael Anthony Nelson; brother, Tucker Nelson; and sister, Dixie Hempfleng.

He is survived by his daughter, Capt. Angela M. Nelson, USMC of Quantico, Va.; a brother, Sammy R. Nelson (Barbara) of Fairhope; and numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014 from 5 until 7 p.m.

Graveside services will be held in the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Barnwell Baptist Church, Ronald McDonald House, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
