“Chill Out on the Coast Project” is a joint effort between Blubandoo Cooling Headwear and Neckwear of California and Sweet Dreams Bath & Body Shop of Orange Beach.
It was developed to help volunteers cleaning up the Gulf Coast oil spill keep cool. More than 100 hats were given away at this year’s 23rd annual Coastal Cleanup held Saturday.
“I sure am glad they had these hats to give away this year,” says local resident Allen McElroy. “I’ve helped with Coastal Cleanup for several years now and it is really hot this year. This hat really worked in helping my neck and head stay comfortable!”
Judy Tatum at Sweet Dreams carries the Blubandoo line.
When she told Cindy Benedict, owner and president of the company, of all the hard work that was being done along the Gulf Coast this summer, Cindy agreed to donate 500 hats to the City of Orange Beach to be distributed to workers and volunteers.
She has also agreed to send another 250 hats to the Mobile Baykeepers, 250 to Save the Beach Turtle Watch program and 20 to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo.
The City of Orange Beach and the volunteer groups could not be more thankful to Benedict, Blubandoo and Butch and Judy Tatum. The gracious donation has made tough work a little easier.
