SPANISH FORT, Ala.— The Spanish Fort Education Enrichment Foundation held its second annual Haulin’ Hooves and Community Bull Run Day last Saturday where more than 280 participants were in attendance.
While participants joined in on the 5k run, many hit the 1k fun-run with strollers to enjoy a cool, fall day with the family.
“It was perfect weather for a race day and everyone was eager to participate,” Sandra Bostrom, executive director of SFEEF, said in an e-mail. “The highlight of the event was the 5k race where the Mobile Roller Derby Team with bull horns attached to their helmets chased the runners like a ‘running of the bulls.’”
The winners of the 5k race were male-winner Craig Warlick, 21, of Livingston, Ala., and female-winner Anna Jarman, 17, of Spanish Fort, according to Bostrom.
Fun run 1k winners included Jacob Hanke, 11, of Spanish Fort for the males and Lili Moms, 8, of Spanish Fort for the females, according to Bostrom.
The education foundation was established in 2002 with a focus on the new Spanish Fort High School and was originally called the Spanish Fort High School Enrichment Foundation. The name was changed to SFEEF to allow for all Spanish Fort schools to benefit from the program, Bostrom has said.
“Last year we had several hundred runners,” Bostrom has said. “After expenses SFEEF raised about $2,000.”
